Deejay!
We decided to get a service dog for Katelyn. We found a trainer (Meagan from karmadogtraining.com), and she went with us to help look for a dog. We were lucky to be able to find Deejay (who was called Billy) at the SF Animal Control center on December 26.
However we couldn’t take him home. 🙁 He wasn’t allowed to leave until he was neutered, and it took a week.
Garage!
I finally cleaned up the garage to make it usable! We now have exercise equipment and Haley’s drum set out there.
I’m back…
Darn, have had a really hard time keeping up with the news. Will now attempt to document what we’ve been doing for a few months…
Jewish Sunday
This morning, Haley accompanied me to the Sholom Women’s Membership Brunch. We had great speakers, The first was a woman who was homeless (with her 13-year-old son) last year and was a guest at our temple’s Home and Hope participation time. The second was a speaker from Temple Isaiah in Lafayette, talking about their Community Conversations initiative, like our Kolot initiative at PTS.
Haley went off to religious school partway through the event.
Val & I went to B’nei Emunah in the afternoon, first to help stuff envelopes, and next to participate in the “Mussar Sings the Blues” presentation.
Brunch with Freda
I had a lovely brunch with Freda on 5/6, catching up and filling her in on what’s been going on with Katelyn. I’m glad to hear her job is going well, and her youngest daughter is graduating from college in 2 weeks!
A Break in the Action
Nothing new posted in about 6 weeks. Life has been a bit overwhelming. Hopefully more soon…
Tough week
I was supposed to go back to work on the 2nd, but simply couldn’t do it because of my neck. I worked a bit, but logged 2 days of sick time over the 3 days.
New Year!
The best part of the new year was Val coming home in the late afternoon on New Year’s Eve. We spent a quiet evening. Val went off to bed early due to jet lag, and I was drifing off to sleep just at the stroke of midnight.
The next day we went to Liza & Jody’s yearly New Year’s Day party to hang out, reconnect with mutual friends, and eat. Val did a puzzle, and I played the Star Trek version of Settler’s of Catan.
Katelyn got her driving permit!
Katelyn passed her permit test on the first try on 12/28! We got there a few minutes before her 2:00 appointment, and were told she needed her certificate of completion for her drivers ed class (duh, of course) and identification, like a birth certificate or passport. OOPS! Luckily the woman at the desk gave us a grace period so we rushed home (something wrong about speeding to get to a drivers permit test) and got those things and got back at 2:20. We only had to wait about 15 minutes before being called to the window, then a bit of time waiting for picture-taking and thumb-printing, then Katelyn went off to take her test. It took about 20 minutes. She missed 4; she could have missed up to 8 and still passed so that was great.
First we stopped for a gas-pumping lesson, then we went over to Skyline college, to the empty parking lots, for her first lesson. She did great, driving around, practicing stopping, accelerating, turning, signaling, and even parking. We left (with me driving), picked up Haley, and went out for celebratory sushi.
Yay!
Kung Pao Kosher Comedy
As I’ve done in past years, I’d made plans to see Kung Pao Kosher Comedy: Jewish comedy on Christmas. I had cancelled everything else because of my neck but was determined to go. Michelle, Barry, and Stacy met me here, and Michelle drove my car. We met Rio there. Everyone was very solicitous and took great care of me, so I was able to go and have a great time. It was hilarious! And the company was awesome. Pictures here.
