Happy Birthday Haley!
Haley turned 12 on Tuesday the 25th!
We started the day off with early morning bagels, where I made Haley put on a birthday hat and stuck a candle in her bagel while we sang Happy Birthday.
They announced her birthday (and two others) on the school radio broadcast, KTLR. She got lots of well-wishes from friends and a few cards in the mail, and a couple of T-shirts from me. We couldn’t go out to dinner that night like we usually would because that evening was the start of Yom Kippor. So the next day, after a long day of worship and fasting, we ended up at Haley’s favorite restaurant, Lai Lai (also known as “Jimmy’s” for the name of the owner). We were a total of 15 people, and had a great time. Haley ended the day getting her last gift from me, a Dr. Who chess set.
Her birthday party for her friends will be on the 6th. We decided to do that because a lot of kids at her school have birthdays around the same time so it’s hard to get kids to her party; we’ve had bad experiences with few attendees in previous years. But we have high hopes for this party.
Haley’s eyes = good
Haley had her annual eye exam on the 13th and all is well. 20-20 vision and no other problems. She got the good eyes, unlike the rest of us!

After accompanying me on an early morning trip to the dentist, Haley went to work with me on 8/24. We stayed until just after lunch, and I worked the resst of the day at home. Haley really liked my workplace. I told her she could work in a place like that if she got her degree in 3-D animation, which she wants to do. It’s been great, telling her that the best school for that is MIT’s Media Lab, and she needs all A’s to get in. Good brainwashing! 🙂
Haley Visits Grandma
Haley has spent T-Th this week visiting Grandma Adrien. It’ll be nice to see her this afternoon – I haven’t seen her for many days.
Kathie – Kids – Camping
Kathie and Joanie took all 3 girls down to Thousand Trails in Gilroy for a fun few days of camping August 4-7. I gather swimming, bike riding, and games were most of the fun.
Haley off to Camp!
Haley left for 12 days at Camp Newman on Wednesday th 18th. It was a quick turnaround after the last trip, but the kids are getting really good at packing these days. Katelyn couldn’t attend this year because even though we signed up for camp in March, her session was already full! She ended up first on the waiting list, but nobody canceled at the last minute so she’s stuck being at home with us.

The kids are back
The kids arrived home from their Chicago+ trip on Saturday the 14th around dinner time.

Val’s home, Kids are gone
Dropped the kids off with Glynis & Susan at Amtrak, went shopping, then picked Val up at the airport.
The itinerary on the train has changed since they won’t stop in Grand Junction due to the fires in Colorado. Glynis is disappointed at not being able to go to Pike’s Peak.
Transition weekend
Kids leave on vacation with Glynis and Susan tomorrow, and Val arrives home a few hours later.
The vacation itinerary:
- Leave June 30th
- Arrive Grand Junction July 1st
- Stay in Moab, Utah July 1&2
- Stay in Woordland Park, Co July 3rd
- Stay in Denver, Co July 4 & 5th
- Train to Chicago July 6th, arriving July 7th
- Staying in Chicago July 7 – 12th
- Leaving Chicago the July 12th, Arriving back home July 14th
Should be a blast!
