East Coast travel for Work

I left on Sunday, February 9 for an east coast business trip. I spent 2 days in Toronto, and am now in Pennsylvania. I was supposed to spent 2 days in the office in Exton, but here it is the second day and I’m stuck in the hotel because of a bad storm. Not so bad, though… I’m getting caught up on my blogging! Hoping the weather clears up so I can drive to NY tomorrow.

Taylor Concert Tour

On Friday, February 7, the Taylor Band did their yearly Concert Tour. They go around to each of the elementary schools and play a mini-concert, encouraging the younger kids to do music. Haley played percussion, and I coordinated the parent volunteers.

Home and Hope

On February 6, the girls and I volunteered for Home and Hope at PTS. This is a program where churches and synagogues host homeless families. They set up tents indoors and feed the families breakfast and dinner for one or two weeks. We made mashed potatoes as part of a dinner, brought it over and served it, and just helped make the families (and especially the kids) feel welcome. It was really good for the kids to experience this, and they said they’d do it again.

Haley and Visiting Kids

Last year, Haley went to LA and was hosted by kids from Temple Isaiah. The first weekend in February, PTS kids hosted the Temple Isaiah kids. Haley met some of them (and re-met some of them) when we went to services on Friday, and then went to Alcatraz, Pier 39, and dinner with them on Saturday.

Linda

Linda visited us on January 30, meeting Deejay and staying for dinner. We’re glad she came because she’d been sick, but was well enough to come over. Yay!

New School Adventure for Katelyn

The staff at Mills didn’t feel safe with Katelyn coming back to Mills at this point, but they presented an alternative. Katelyn will stay in band and jazz band (periods 0 and 1), then get bused to Skyview Therapeutic Day School. This is a high school in San Bruno that’s part of the San Mateo High School District where there are smaller classes and therapists and aides on staff. She will technically still be a Mills student. In fact, if the stays at Skyview she will still get a Mills diploma.

She will need to be there for at least 60 days, after which they’ll evaluate how she’s doing and decide what to do. So we’re not sure how long she’ll be there. The teachers there actually say that some kids decide they prefer it and stay there.  But we’ll see.

Katelyn spent January 24-27 in the Adolescent Mental Health unit again. She had a bit of a lapse, but came out of it pretty well.

Busy Day, Busy Weekend!

Saturday, January 21 was a crazy busy day. While Val was at services at BE, the electrician came over to do some wiring in the garage, Katelyn and Deejay had a training session with Meagan, I took the kids to Glynis & Susan’s poker party, and we ended the day having dinner with our friends Deborah and Nancy at Kabul. What a great day!

The following day Jennifer and Selena came over for a visit. A great end to a great weekend.
